Mr. Somu Sekar Pillay, the founder of Sekar’s Group of Companies in Seychelles since 1978, recounts the history of the birth of one of the most versatile and innovative enterprises in Seychelles.

Stemming from humble beginnings, Mr. Somu Sekar Pillay was born and raised in Mayiladuthurai in Tamilnadu, South India. From the tender age of 13 years, Mr. Somu Sekar Pillay began his career as a lowly general worker in a retail shop in Mayiladuthurai. Honoring his commitment to his employer with dedication and hard work, Mr. Pillay’s talent and experience of five years was finally recognized with the reward of being appointed as the Assistant Shop Manager by his employer who also had another retail shop in Seychelles. Mr. Pillay’s resourceful nature was channeled into being wholly in charge and responsible for all the activities pertaining to the efficient and profitable running of the shop with his multi-faceted talent of excellent public relations that catered to good customer service. With his previous experience of five years, Mr. Pillay was competent enough to handle the intricacies of running a retail outlet with procurements, storage, sales, recording transaction details, administrative work and all the aspects of a successful management of a retail store.

As a willing and dedicated Assistant Shop Manager, Mr. Pillay went that extra mile with a sense of responsibility and discipline that made the store a success. His employer appreciated the sincere dedication and encouraged Mr. Pillay who was in turn grateful to his employer for uplifting his life with unforgettable golden moments. Mr. Pillay’s employer was so impressed with his attitude of hard work and sincerity that he rewarded him with a gift of small but independent shop at Les Cannelled (Anse Royal District) and with this platform, Mr. Pillay ventured on the first leg of his business career in Seychelles.
